진주는 아름다움 이상의 의미를 담을 수 있을까요?진주 한 점에 담은 우주와 자비, 그리고 삶의 품격



안녕하세요. 저는 GIA Graduate Gemologist(보석감정사)이며, 오랫동안 세계 여러 나라의 보석 전시회를 다니며 보석을 공부해 왔습니다.

미국 시카고, 뉴욕, 라스베이거스, 이탈리아, 홍콩, 일본, 싱가포르….

수많은 아름다운 작품을 만나면서 제 마음속에는 늘 하나의 질문이 있었습니다.

'보석은 아름답기만 하면 되는 것일까?'

저는 보석에도 이야기와 마음, 그리고 철학이 담길 수 있다고 생각합니다.

그래서 불교의 지혜와 자비를 표현한 진언인 '옴 마니 반메 훔(Om Mani Padme Hum)'의 의미를 담아 일본 디자인 전시회에 이 작품을 출품했습니다.

 중앙의 진주는  우주 를 상징합니다. 그리고 주위를 감싸는 부드러운 곡선은 자비와 조화, 그리고 끝없이 이어지는 생명의 흐름을 표현하고자 했습니다.

저에게 보석은 단순한 장신구가 아닙니다.

사람의 마음을 위로하고, 품격을 더하며,

오늘이라는 소중한 순간을 더욱 아름답게 빛내 주는 작은 예술입니다.

세월은 누구도 붙잡을 수 없습니다.

그래서 저는 더욱 오늘을 소중히 생각합니다.

우리는 어제를 후회하고 내일을 걱정하며 살기 쉽습니다.

하지만 우리에게 주어진 것은 바로 지금 이 순간입니다.

오늘 이 순간을 가장 우아하고 아름답게 살아가는 것.

그것이 제가 보석을 사랑하는 이유이기도 합니다.


앞으로도 이 블로그를 통해 보석의 아름다움 뿐만 아니라,
그 안에 담긴 우리 삶의 이야기들을 함께 나누고 싶습니다.

Hello,

I am Chanel Park, a GIA Graduate Gemologist.

For many years, I have studied jewelry and traveled to international jewelry exhibitions around the world—in Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore.

As I encountered countless beautiful pieces, one question stayed with me:

Does jewelry only need to be beautiful?

I believe that jewelry can also hold a story, a feeling, and a philosophy.

With that thought in mind, I created this piece and entered it in a design exhibition in Japan.

It was inspired by the meaning of the Buddhist mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum, which represents wisdom and compassion.

The pearl at the center symbolizes the universe.

The gentle curves surrounding it were designed to express compassion, harmony, and the endless flow of life.

To me, jewelry is not simply an accessory.

It is a small form of art that can comfort the heart, add dignity, and make the precious moments of today shine a little more beautifully.

No one can hold on to time.

That is why I try to cherish today even more.

It is easy to regret yesterday or worry about tomorrow.

But what we truly have is this very moment.

To live this moment with elegance, beauty, and gratitude—

that is also one of the reasons why I love jewelry.

Through this blog, I hope to share not only the beauty of jewelry, but also the stories of life that can be found within it.

Many people think that simply checking whether a pearl is saltwater or freshwater is enough when making a purchase. Of course, the type of pearl matters. However, speaking from the perspective of someone who has handled pearls for a long time, one of the most crucial factors determining a pearl's value is its Luster .
