Do you have an old gold ring tucked away deep in a drawer or jewelry box?

It may be out of style and no longer something you wear, but when you take it out, it can still feel difficult to simply sell.

“Gold prices are high. Should I just sell it?”
“Or should I have it redesigned in a style I would wear today?”

When I face this question, I first look at both the value and the story that remain in the ring.

When It May Be Fine to Sell

If you have no attachment to the design and do not expect to wear it again, selling it may be a reasonable option.

This can be especially true when the design is outdated and complicated, and the gemstones are not particularly valuable.

In that case, the value of the gold itself may matter more than the ring’s sentimental value.

When It May Be Better to Redesign It

The answer can be different for a ring inherited from a parent, a wedding ring, or a diamond ring that has been part of your life for many years.

If it contains a good diamond, ruby, sapphire, or another valuable gemstone, you may keep the stone and remake only the setting to suit your current taste.

An old, heavy yellow-gold ring can become a refined white-gold ring or a soft rose-gold necklace.

The memories remain, while the jewelry becomes something you can wear again today.

Before You Sell It, Check Just Three Things

First, check the gold purity: is it 10K, 14K, 18K, or 24K?

Second, check the actual weight of the gold in grams.

Gold value is determined by both purity and weight, so two rings that look similar can have very different values.

Third, check whether the diamonds or colored gemstones set in the ring are truly valuable.

Checking these three things first can help prevent the regret of selling too quickly or remaking it without understanding its true value.

An old gold ring may simply be an outdated piece of jewelry.

But some rings can become jewelry that brings light back into your life.

Whether to sell it or remake it, the answer depends not only on the price of gold, but also on the story the ring still holds for you.

장롱이나 보석함 깊숙이 넣어 둔 오래된 금반지 하나쯤은 있으시죠?

유행은 지났고, 손에는 잘 가지 않는데
막상 꺼내 보면 쉽게 팔아버리기는 아까운 반지.

“금값이 좋다는데 그냥 팔까?”
“아니면 요즘 스타일로 다시 만들어 볼까?”

저는 이럴 때 먼저 반지에 남아 있는 가치와 이야기를 함께 봅니다.

이런 반지는 팔아도 괜찮습니다

디자인에도 미련이 없고, 앞으로 다시 착용할 생각도 없다면
금의 중량과 함량을 확인한 뒤 매입을 고려할 수 있습니다.

특히 오래된 디자인에 세공이 복잡하고, 보석도 특별하지 않다면
반지의 추억보다 금 자체의 가치가 더 클 수도 있습니다.

부모님께 물려받은 반지, 결혼 예물, 오래 함께한 다이아 반지라면 이야기가 달라집니다.

팔기 전에, 딱 세 가지만 확인하세요

이 반지가 몇 K인지,
금 중량이 얼마나 되는지,
그리고 박혀 있는 보석이 정말 가치 있는 돌인지.

이 세 가지만 확인해도
“괜히 팔았다”거나 “괜히 고쳤다”는 후회를 많이 줄일 수 있습니다.

오래된 금반지는 유행 지난 물건일 수도 있지만,
