에르메스의 상징인 말이 작은 비행기를 타고 하늘을 날아갑니다.

구름 속을 지나 신비로운 숲에 도착하고, 다시 깊은 바닷속으로 들어갑니다. 그 여정에서 스카프는 돛이 되고, 벨트와 가죽 제품은 거대한 풍경의 일부가 됩니다.

최근 에르메스 공식 홈페이지에 공개된 영상 〈끝없이 펼쳐진 여름〉입니다.

오랜 역사를 지닌 브랜드가 자신의 상징인 말을 지키면서도, 오늘의 감각에 맞게 새롭게 표현한 모습이 인상적입니다. 현실과 상상이 자연스럽게 이어지는 장면은 AI 시대의 시각적 감각과도 잘 어울립니다.

에르메스는 전통을 지키되 과거에 머무르지 않습니다. 시대의 흐름을 읽으며 끊임없이 새로운 모습으로 변화합니다.

생각해보면 우리 눈에 보이는 모든 것 역시 끊임없이 변합니다.

버킨, 켈리, 콘스탄스.

여성이라면 누구나 한 번쯤 마음에 품어보는 이름입니다. 저 역시 에르메스가 표현하는 깊은 색과 디자인, 한 장의 스카프에 담긴 예술성을 좋아합니다.

그러나 아름다운 것을 사랑하는 마음과, 그것이 언제까지나 내 곁에 머물 것이라고 믿는 마음은 다를 수 있습니다.

제가 가까이에서 지켜본 한 지인은 에르메스 가방을 30여 개나 소유하고 있었습니다. 백화점 에르메스에서 신제품이 들어오면 먼저 연락받을 정도의 고객이었습니다.

그러던 어느 날 남편의 사업이 부도로 인하여, 결국 살던 집까지 잃게 되었습니다. 그분은 자신도 부도 사실을 미리 알지 못했다고 했습니다.

그 일을 지켜보며 저는 생각했습니다.

그 많던 아름다운 가방도 삶이 흔들리는 순간 그 사람을 지켜줄 수는 없었다고.

사람이 언제 앞으로 나아가고 언제 잠시 속도를 늦춰야 하는지를 정확히 알기는 어렵습니다. 그래서 우리에게는 언제나 내일을 준비하는 공부가 필요합니다.

일이 잘될 때도 세상의 변화를 살피고 새로운 것을 배워야 합니다. 흐름이 뜻대로 풀리지 않을 때는 조급하게 밀어붙이기보다, 자신을 돌아보고 부족한 부분을 채워야 합니다.

그리고 자신의 기운이 약해지고 길이 막혔다고  느껴질 때는 가진 것을 움켜쥐기보다, 작은 것이라도 다른 사람과 나누는 마음이 필요합니다.

진심으로 베푸는 마음에는 적이 생기지 않습니다. 도움을 받은 사람의 감사는 보이지 않는 따뜻한 기운이 되어, 언젠가 새로운 인연과 길로 다시 이어질 수 있습니다.

저에게 보석과 부동산, 명품과 명리 역학은 서로 떨어진 이야기가 아닙니다.

모두 자연과 사람, 시대와 운의 흐름 속에서 생겨나고 변화하기 때문입니다. 반짝이는 보석(金)과 넓은 땅(土), 화려한 명품(火)  처럼 겉으로 드러난 오행( 목·화·토·금·수)의 모습은 저마다 다릅니다.
허지만 이 모든 것은 결국 자연의 순환이라는 하나의 큰 흐름 안에서 이어져 있습니다.

아무리 단단한 보석도, 높은 가치를 지닌 부동산도, 사람들이 동경하는 명품도 영원히 같은 가치와 모습으로 머물지는 않습니다.

형상이 있는 모든 것은 변합니다. 우리가 소유했다고 믿는 것들도 잠시 곁에 머물다가 언젠가는 다른 자리로 흘러갑니다.

"끝내 모든 형상은 변하고 사라지지만, 그것을 품고 있던 허공은 말없이 남습니다." 

그래서 저는 아름다운 것을 감사히 누리되 그것에 매이지 않고, 언제나 내일을 준비하며 배우고, 가능한 만큼 다른 사람과 나누는 삶이 중요하다고 생각합니다.

명품보다 오래 남는 것은 소유가 아니라 지혜입니다.

그리고 사람의 삶을 지켜주는 것은 쌓아놓은 물건의 수가 아니라, 끊임없는 공부와 베풂으로 쌓아온 복이 아닐까요.

The Wisdom of Loving Beauty

A horse—the enduring symbol of Hermès—flies through the sky in a small airplane.

It passes through the clouds, arrives in a mysterious forest, and then travels deep beneath the sea. Along the way, a scarf becomes a sail, while belts and leather objects become part of an enormous landscape.

This is Endless Summer, a recent video featured on the official Hermès website.

What impressed me most was how a brand with such a long history preserved the horse as its enduring symbol while presenting it through a fresh, contemporary perspective. The seamless blending of reality and imagination also feels perfectly suited to the visual language of the AI era.

Hermès honors its traditions without remaining in the past. It continues to evolve by understanding the changing spirit of each era.

When we think about it, everything visible to us is constantly changing as well.

Birkin, Kelly, Constance.

These are names that many women have dreamed of owning at least once in their lives. I, too, admire the depth of Hermès colors, its timeless designs, and the artistry contained in a single scarf.

However, loving beautiful things is not the same as believing they will remain with us forever.

Someone I knew owned more than thirty Hermès bags. She was such a valued customer that the department store would contact her whenever a new item arrived.

Then one day, her husband’s business went bankrupt. Eventually, she even lost her home. She said that she had not known about the bankruptcy beforehand.

As I watched what happened, one thought remained with me:

Even all those beautiful bags could not protect her life when everything began to fall apart.

It is not easy to know exactly when we should move forward and when we should slow down. That is why we must continue learning and preparing for tomorrow.

Even when life is going well, we need to observe how the world is changing and remain open to new knowledge. When things do not unfold as we hoped, we should not always push forward out of impatience. Sometimes, we need to look within and strengthen what is still lacking.

When our energy begins to weaken and the path ahead feels narrow, we may also need to loosen our grip on what we possess and share something, however small, with others.

Sincere generosity creates no enemies. The gratitude felt by someone who has received kindness becomes a warm, unseen energy. Someday, it may return in the form of a new relationship, an unexpected opportunity, or a newly opened path.

To me, jewelry, real estate, luxury, and Myeongri—the study of destiny and the flow of life—are not separate subjects.

All of them arise and change within the movements of nature, people, time, and destiny. Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water may take different forms, but they are ultimately connected within one greater flow.

Even the hardest gemstone, the most valuable property, and the luxury item admired by many cannot preserve the same appearance and value forever.

Everything that has a visible form must change. Even the things we believe we own remain beside us only for a while before eventually moving to another place.

In the end, all forms change and disappear, while the space that once held them remains in silence.

That is why I believe we should appreciate beautiful things without becoming attached to them, continue learning in preparation for tomorrow, and share what we can with others.

What lasts longer than luxury is not possession, but wisdom.

And perhaps what truly protects our lives is not the number of things we have accumulated, but the blessings we have cultivated through continuous learning and generosity.
