8월 1일, 한여름의 태양 아래에서 만나는 이달의 탄생석은 페리도트입니다.
햇살을 품은 초록빛 보석
페리도트는 노란빛과 초록빛이 함께 어우러진 보석입니다.
완전히 차가운 초록도, 뜨거운 노랑도 아닌 그 황록색은 마치 여름 햇살이 새잎 위에 내려앉은 듯한 생명력을 보여줍니다.

페리도트는 지구 깊은 맨틀에서 형성되어 화산 활동을 통해 지표 가까이 올라옵니다.
매우 드물게는 우주에서 날아온 운석 속에서도 발견되는 신비로운 보석입니다.
고대 이집트인들은 페리도트를 ‘태양의 보석’이라 불렀습니다.
또한 오랫동안 어둠과 두려움으로부터 착용자를 지켜주는 보호의 보석으로 여겼습니다.
오늘날에는 부부의 안녕과 화합, 지혜와 마음의 평화를 기원하는 의미로도 사랑받고 있습니다.
보석에도 기운이 있을까요?
보석 하나가 사람의 운명을 대신 바꾸어 준다고 단정할 수는 없습니다.

August’s Birthstone: Peridot
In the previous article, Coco Chanel showed us that the value of jewelry is not determined by price alone. Its beauty also comes from how confidently and personally we choose to wear it.
As we begin a new month, what kind of light might we need in our lives today?
On August 1, under the brilliant midsummer sun, we meet this month’s birthstone: peridot.
A Green Gem Filled with Sunlight
Peridot brings yellow and green together in a single gemstone.
It is neither a cool, pure green nor a warm, vivid yellow. Its yellowish-green color seems to capture the vitality of summer sunlight resting on a fresh green leaf.
Peridot forms deep within the Earth’s mantle and is carried closer to the surface through volcanic activity.
In extremely rare cases, peridot crystals have even been found inside meteorites that traveled to Earth from space.
The ancient Egyptians called peridot the “gem of the sun.” For centuries, it was also worn as a protective talisman against darkness, fear, and the terrors of the night.
Today, it is also associated with harmony in marriage, wisdom, emotional peace, and well-being.
Can a Gemstone Carry Energy?
We cannot say that a gemstone alone has the power to change a person’s destiny.
However, color and light can influence how we feel. They may also help us pause, reflect, and become more aware of the choices we wish to make.
In Myeongri, the traditional Korean study of elemental balance in life, each person is understood to have a different relationship with season, color, and energy.
The same color may therefore feel refreshing and comforting to one person, yet too strong or unfamiliar to another.
Peridot’s yellowish-green color suggests new growth, renewal, and the quiet strength of life moving forward.
