랩그로운 다이아몬드, VVS보다 먼저 봐야 할 것

랩그로운 다이아몬드를 고를 때 VVS나 IF처럼 가장 높은 클래리티 등급부터 찾아야 할까요?


저는 굳이 최고 등급을 고집하지 않습니다.


VVS와 VS의 차이는 맨눈으로 보기 어렵습니다


VVS와 VS의 차이는 주로 10배 확대를 통해 확인합니다. 잘 선별된 VS 등급이라면 맨눈으로 충분히 깨끗하고, 주얼리로 세팅했을 때도 아름답습니다.






눈에 잘 보이지 않는 차이에 비용을 더하기보다, 실제로 보이는 아름다움에 집중하는 것이 현명합니다.

무색의 화사함을 원한다면 F컬러 이상

랩그로운 다이아몬드는 통제된 환경에서 성장하기 때문에 맑고 깨끗한 컬러를 비교적 안정적으로 얻을 수 있습니다.

저는 무색의 화사함을 원할 때 F컬러 이상을 먼저 살펴봅니다. 하지만 감정서만 믿고 바로 선택하지는 않습니다.

감정서가 비슷해도 빛은 다릅니다

요즘 랩그로운 다이아몬드는 컷과 연마, 대칭이 우수한 스톤이 많습니다. 감정서만 보면 비슷해 보여도 실제 빛의 인상은 서로 다를 수 있습니다.

어떤 돌은 빛이 지나치게 밖으로 튀어 가볍게 느껴지고, 어떤 돌은 빛이 자연스럽고 균형 있게 살아납니다.

감정서는 등급을 알려주지만, 빛의 깊이까지 대신 판단해주지는 않습니다.

제가 직접 보고 선택하는 이유

오랫동안 천연 다이아몬드와 랩그로운 다이아몬드를 비교해보니, 높은 등급이 반드시 더 아름다운 빛을 보장하지는 않았습니다.

그래서 저는 감정서의 글자보다 어느 각도에서 보아도 자연스럽게 살아나는 빛과 주얼리 전체의 조화를 먼저 봅니다.

제가 고르는 기준은 간단합니다

  • 무색의 화사함을 위한 F컬러 이상
  • 맨눈으로 깨끗한 VS 등급
  • 안정적인 컷과 연마, 대칭
  • 지나치게 튀지 않는 균형 있는 빛
  • 착용하는 사람과 주얼리에 어울리는 조화

최고 등급이 반드시 가장 아름다운 다이아몬드를 의미하지는 않습니다.

감정서는 선택의 출발점일 뿐입니다. 마지막 선택은 숫자와 글자가 아니라, 눈앞에서 느껴지는 빛으로 이루어져야 합니다.

오는 9월 홍콩 주얼리 전시회에서는 5~10캐럿 컬러 랩그로운 다이아몬드를 직접 살펴보고, 색과 빛이 자연스러운 스톤만 엄선해 오겠습니다.

What Matters More Than VVS in a Lab-Grown Diamond?

Should you always choose VVS or IF clarity when buying a lab-grown diamond?

I do not insist on the highest clarity grade.

Most People Cannot See the Difference Between VVS and VS

The difference is generally identified under 10× magnification. A carefully selected VS diamond can look beautifully clean to the unaided eye.

It is often wiser to invest in beauty you can actually see.

Consider F Color or Higher for a Colorless Look

Lab-grown diamonds can achieve clear, colorless grades more consistently in a controlled environment.

For a bright, colorless appearance, I usually consider F color or higher. However, I never choose a diamond by its grading report alone.

Similar Reports Can Show Different Light

Many lab-grown diamonds have excellent cut, polish and symmetry. Yet stones with similar reports can still look different in person.

Some appear overly white, with sharp light jumping from the surface. Others show more natural balance and depth.

A report describes the grade, but it cannot fully describe the character of the light.

Why I Examine Every Stone

After comparing natural and lab-grown diamonds for many years, I have learned that a higher grade does not always guarantee more beautiful light.

I look first at how naturally the light comes alive from every angle and how well the stone harmonizes with the jewelry.

What I Look For

  • F color or higher for a colorless appearance
  • Eye-clean VS clarity
  • Balanced cut, polish and symmetry
  • Light that does not feel overly sharp
  • Harmony with the jewelry and the person wearing it

The highest grade does not always mean the most beautiful diamond.

A grading report is only the beginning. The final choice should be made by looking beyond letters and numbers to the actual light of the stone.

At the Hong Kong jewelry exhibition this September, I will personally examine colored lab-grown diamonds between 5 and 10 carats and carefully select only those with natural-looking color and light.
